How the media company quintupled health screening participation

Four years ago, trotting media company TR Media realised it needed to rethink its approach to health. Previous health screenings with a traditional occupational health provider had not generated much interest among employees — only a handful actually booked appointments and travelled to a clinic for sampling. When the pandemic hit, a large part of the workforce was also working from home, which affected both the physical and psychosocial work environment.

Health screenings in a safe environment

That was when Helena Dubia and Catharina Flink, HR managers at TR Media, took on the challenge and started the TR Hälsa group with other health-minded colleagues at the company. Together they began organising joint training sessions and step-counting competitions.

When staff returned to the office, the partnership with OneLab began. Because OneLab’s nurses come to the office in Bromma and carry out health screenings in the conference room, Helena and Catharina have noticed that employees actually take the opportunity to check up on their health. ”We have some employees with white coat syndrome who dare to take part because they feel at home in the environment”, says Helena.

Being able to easily assess mental health and lifestyle with the digital health check is also valuable for getting as many people as possible involved in the health initiative, she says. This has led TR Media to quintuple its participation in health screenings through the partnership with OneLab.

An eye-opener for lifestyle changes

Through the partnership with OneLab, TR Media employees have gained tools to make lifestyle changes. ”When OneLab visited us to inform us about this year’s health screenings, one employee said they really had an eye-opener at their latest examination and since then has developed better habits around diet and exercise”, says Catharina.

Internally, the TR Hälsa group supports employees in their lifestyle changes when it comes to physical activity, and in recent years they have organised a series of successful step-counting competitions, padel tournaments, and started running and walking clubs with good turnout. Awareness around health has also come to permeate most things — from what they give as Easter gifts to employees to which activities they plan at the annual kick-off. There is strong interest and engagement in health at TR Media, and the focus going forward is to make sure as many people as possible get involved in the initiatives.

Mental health on the agenda

In OneLab’s HR platform, HR and management receive aggregated results from the health screenings, which in TR Media’s case confirms that the health initiatives are delivering results. Helena and Catharina are proud that the latest screenings indicated reduced risk in both physical and mental health areas.

The next major focus area for TR Media will be psychosocial health. ”We already have good results here, but we want to do even more for our employees, especially those who live alone or have moved here and don’t have family nearby”, explains Catharina. The next activity on the agenda is a lecture with a psychologist that OneLab has helped arrange.

”Being able to see that we are on the right track, or where we need to focus more, with the help of OneLab is a hugely important part of our health work”, says Helena.
