It’s no news that the legal profession is fraught with stressful days. At Verahill, however, there is a strong focus on sustainable growth, and the employees’ working situation and health are high priorities. Together with OneLab, they found the right way to work and it became a valuable tool.

According to Petra Segerdahl, CEO at Verahill, the idea of efficient and good corporate health has existed for a long time. When they were introduced to OneLab’s offering of digital health screenings at the beginning of the year, they pounced. “We have several different legal roles at the company and could see that stress is present in all roles, which in the worst case can lead to burnout and exhaustion. To avoid that, we took the help of OneLab and their services have suited us very well. We have really understood the importance of catching signals in time”, says Petra Segerdahl.

A stressful everyday life

Verahill is a law firm where a lot of responsibility rests on the shoulders of the employees. Together, they want to make people’s lives safer. In a typical working day, they handle everything from separations to meetings with relatives of deceased individuals, and deal with strong emotions. Therefore, together they need to be strong, healthy and equipped for just this.

The industry magazine Legally Yours survey Juristbarometern 2019 showed that the health of every third lawyer (out of 2,100) is negatively affected by the job – a problem that Petra Segerdahl still believes needs to be taken seriously. Verahill conducted its first digital health survey with OneLab in January and the results confirmed the image of the legal world; a lot of stress and lack of recovery. “We have had periods of high workload where the recovery has unfortunately suffered. Something that also came as a shock was that we discovered a low level of physical activity among the employees. But, we think it could be an effect of the pandemic and that many have stayed inside instead of being out and exercising”, she says.

Valuable help

Petra Segerdahl emphasises that OneLab’s smart health examination with digital screening has been extremely valuable for the company and has given them an important insight into how the staff is doing. All employees who were in the risk zone got to speak to a nurse so that, if necessary, they could be connected to a health center for further assistance. “Even if you don’t need contact with a nurse or doctor, that service is included if you still want to talk to someone. I think that’s nice. The help we have received is very valuable and it has been a good aid in our ongoing process to take care of our employees”, she says.

Improved results

In May, Verahill carried out another health check to follow up on the results from the first time. After the second measurement, it was seen, among other things, that the risk of stress and exhaustion has gone from seven to zero percent and that the risk of anxiety and worry has improved from seven to two percent. Petra Segerdahl is satisfied with the result, but wants to continue to improve. “It is extremely important to constantly work on the well-being of the staff and you can never work too much on being a healthy workplace. OneLab’s service has been a valuable tool for us”.

As the service is very flexible and accessible, participation has been very high. According to Petra Segerdahl, the turnout has been 98 percent and the response has been positive from everyone. Together, the employees have created a commitment to well-being and they now continue to strive for positive corporate health.
